2008 HOUSING MARKET FORECAST

Every reason to be optimistic ?

YES says regions most experienced estate agent

Peter Jackson And Alan Robinson have been selling houses in the south east for over 40 years and have seen three recessions during that time in 1973, 1980 and 1988/9.

“ On all those occasions 3 factors were at the foundation of the problems” observes Jackson. “High interest rates up to 15%, High inflation up to 18% and high unemployment. On that basis we cannot understand why the property market should not be very strong in 2008 as the facts are that interest rates are currently 5.5% and on the way down, inflation is no more than 2/3% an ‘people in work’ is the highest ever!”

 Jackson concludes “We are in the business of selling houses and flats, and finding people homes. Small changes in prices do not really concern us or the majority of our clients. Give the public credit for realizing that if they get slightly less than expected for their own property they’ll be paying less on their new purchase.

Sometimes I think the media only seem concerned with ‘investment’ as opposed to what really matters to most families – a decent roof over their heads as well as a long term investment. The Robinson Jackson partnerships sold more properties in 2007 than ever before and as a group the 21 trading branches had a record year grossing over 12 million pounds in fee income.

Up to 6 more branches are due to open in the next 18 months”.

 Alan Robinson added “As of this January I have been in local and national estate agency for 40 years – 37 of those with my friend and business partner Pete Jackson. I would say that I’ve seen every type of market condition and I’ve told our younger staff and workmates that there is no reason not to be 100% enthusiastic about 2008.
