Graham Phillips

Promoted to Assistant Branch Manager at Northumberland Heath

What did you do before joining us? I worked for Kent Police for 5 years as a call taker and dispatcher. Prior to this, I worked as an estate agent for seven years in the Medway and Swale towns. Working for the police was eye-opening; so much happens that the general public is not aware of.

What attracted you to estate agency? I previously worked for an estate agent in Medway, which I won't name and shame! I love the journey of both the vendor and the purchaser. Being allowed access to so many different properties and meeting so many different people and cultures.

What type of mentoring or support have you received during your time with us, and what advice has been a great help? I have had great mentoring since starting back in estate agency. I have been guided by both Vince Hedges and Joe Buckle. I started as a senior sales negotiator, but had to start afresh, HMO??BTL??LTB?? This threw me at first. But it's like riding a bike; it all came back to me. Joe has helped me become very confident when it comes to valuations, dealing with offers, and the day-to-day running of the office. Vince took a massive gamble on me, five years out of the job, to be given the senior role, and now assistant branch manager, I can't thank him enough. Finally, what a branch to work for, I feel very lucky.

What are your ambitions for the future?  Having just been promoted to assistant branch manager, I still have lots to learn, and I look forward to growing in my new role. I shall continue being guided by my managers, Joe and Vince, and who knows what the future holds, I would love to be a branch manager one day.

What do you like most about working here? The best thing about working for Robinson Jackson is the people. My team is amazing, and the company looks after you so well. The socials are great, and you are rewarded well.

Any advice to those considering a career in estate agency? Go for it, take that big step. It opens so many different doors for you. If you struggle with your confidence, then this is the best place to gain more confidence. Starting with talking on the phone, that first phone call is the most important. Next thing you know, you are out on viewings, then carrying out valuations and getting properties on the market. A great journey and such a great opportunity.

WILDCARD - What did you want to be when you were 10 years old?  When I was 10, I wanted to be a journalist. Travel the world, meet new people. Now I travel around Erith and Slade Green..... similar really!
