More homes selling now than in 2018

The real property market? There’s an increase in people looking to buy and sell with us in 2019, defying forecasts and surprising hopeful movers.

If you walk into any one of our branches and expect a somber mood, think again. Our experience of the property market in 2019 is one of positivity, with the rate of sales picking up pace as we move through the year. In fact, we’re selling more homes now than at the same point in 2018 and this is coming as a major shock to the general public (and to other estate agents). Our negotiators are busy on the phone arranging valuations, telling people their offer has been accepted and handing over keys to new property owners – there’s a real sense of urgency to move, despite assumptions.

Almost 14,000 people have already registered their property requirements with our branches this year - that’s more people looking to move now than at the same time in 2018. As a result, our branches conducted almost 700 valuations and arranged nearly 4,500 viewings in April 2019 alone – it’s clear why our mood is upbeat.

So just who is moving? Resurgent first-time buyers - who are making the most of Help to Buy, shared ownership and stamp-duty free homes (those priced under £250,000) – are now joined by families who are back in the hunt for a new property. Rightmove analysis in April showed more owners of family homes are now coming to market compared to last year, so all types of property are now in demand.

Although many of our customers can’t put off the decision to move - perhaps they are moving for a job, a school place or need more room for a growing family – there are plenty of smart buyers who are capitalizing on the best affordability for a decade and recognise now is the time to take action.

Our staff are reporting an increasing number of movers who have been inspired by cheap mortgages available with just 5% deposits, relative house prices and our Sales Progression service, which is designed to quicken the time it takes for a sale to complete.

If you’d like an honest property market update for your area, contact your local branch. You’ll be surprised at how many buyers and seller are actively looking where you live.
