Ex-Bank Now Builds Better Futures

Discover how a local landmark has been transformed into a symbol of confidence, investment and opportunity.

For generations, local people visited this High Street building to manage their money. The bank might be long gone. Still, from today, you can walk through the doors once again and build a better future.

Banks across the UK have been closing, leaving prominent buildings boarded, neglected and making High Street’s feel unloved. In Rainham Kent, however, one of the town's best-known landmarks has been given a new lease of life.

The move represents the next chapter for a business that has served Rainham from the same High Street for decades. With the team growing and more people choosing Robinson Michael & Jackson to help with their property plans, moving to a larger premises had become a natural next step.

The new office reflects more than three decades in Kent helping people buy, sell, rent and invest in property, while creating a space designed around a relaxed yet professional customer experience.

Simon Woodcock, RMJ’s Owner Partner, said: "We're proud to be investing in the area and giving this building a new purpose. A busy High Street benefits everyone and, if bringing more people into the town centre helps support neighbouring businesses too, then that's a positive outcome for the whole community."

He continues: “We've put a huge amount of time, energy and care into this project. We wanted to create somewhere people would genuinely enjoy visiting and somewhere our team would be proud to work. It's modern, welcoming and built around our customers, while also showing our long-term commitment to Rainham and its future."

A New Chapter For A Familiar Building

Most local residents will know the building at 70–74 High Street Rainham. What they might not realise is quite how much work it took to transform it.

This wasn't a simple refurbishment. Contractors stripped the building back to its bare bones and quickly discovered that converting a former bank into a modern estate agency comes with a few surprises.

The biggest? A safe with walls two feet thick, so structurally integral to the building that removing it simply wasn't an option.

Rather than work around it, the team embraced it. Today, that space serves as a dedicated financial adviser office – arguably the most secure mortgage consultation room in Kent!

Planning permission was required for the new office frontage and the legal process alone took more than 18 months to complete.

At 212 square metres, the new space is significantly larger than the previous office and is the largest occupied by any estate agency in Rainham and nearby Gillingham.

Designed Around You

Whether you're buying your first home, moving somewhere bigger or looking for mortgage advice, the team wanted the office to feel like somewhere you'd want to sit and talk things through.

Parking is convenient to the rear in Orchard Street Car Park. Once you enter the building, you'll find plenty of spots to have a chat with sales, lettings and mortgage advisers, along with a separate meeting room if you'd prefer a little more privacy.

The office includes comfortable seating and fast Wi-Fi, so you're settled before any conversations begin.

Even the signature swift logo above the entrance is unique, illuminated in different colours throughout the year, celebrating seasonal events.

Build For An Award-Winning Team

Great service starts with great people.

With a team of 20 and growing, the Rainham office now has a base that matches its ambition. It's modern, larger, better equipped and designed around the way people work today.

After all, happy people tend to do their best work, and that's good news for everyone who walks through the door. It's part of the wider culture that helped The Robinson Jackson Group earn recognition as one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026.

Simon Woodcock adds: "This new office is the clearest sign yet of where The Group is headed. SE London and Kent’s property market is probably the most resilient in the UK and our High Streets remain some of the busiest. So it makes sense for us to be at the heart of it. We're really proud of what we've built in Rainham and we can't wait to welcome you through the doors."
