Lewisham Area Guide

Lewisham snapshot

Vibrant, multicultural and with an exciting food scene, Lewisham represents fresh urban living. The town is emerging from a 15-year, £375 million regeneration that’s enhancing its Zone 2 status and residential credentials. Although the existing DLR station and 10 minute journey to London Bridge by mainline rail tick the travel boxes, it’s the proposed Bakerloo line extension that’s the talk of the town.

Lewisham: where?

Lewisham town is located in the London Borough of Lewisham and covers the whole SE13 postcode. It’s bordered by Catford, Deptford, Blackheath and New Cross, with residential offshoots including Lee, St Johns and Hither Green.

The BIG 3:

1. Transport:

  • Own mainline train station with direct services to London Bridge, Charing Cross, Waterloo East, Victoria, Orpington, Sidcup and Sevenoaks
  • DLR station, which connects with the Jubilee line
  • South Circular and the A2 on the doorstep
  • Possibility of a Bakerloo line extension to Lewisham
  • Wide reaching bus routes, including a service to Canada Water Tube station

2. Schools:

Lewisham is strong when it comes to further education in the arts, with both Trinity Laban and Goldsmiths, University of London in the vicinity. There’s a ‘find-a-school’ facility on every one of our online property listings, where you can filter schools by age, type and Ofsted rating.

3. Attractions:

Lewisham Shopping Centre remains the town centre’s heartbeat but it’s complemented by a daily open air street market and Model Market in the spring - the pop-up street food, drink and music extravaganza. Lewisham has more than an urban vibe, however, with a surprising number of green spaces. Head to Mountsfield Park, home to the annual People's Day festival, Lewisham Park, Manor House Gardens, Ladywell Fields or Hilly Fields for your fresh-air fix. Always a hit with families are Ladywell Leisure Centre, The Glass Mill Leisure Centre and Lewisham’s bowling alley.
